READER 1 | He wanted to see who Jesus was, |
READER 2 | but being a short man he could not, |
READER 3 | because of the crowd. |
READER 1 | So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. |
READER 2 | When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, |

READER 1 | Zacchaeus, |
READER 2 | come down immediately. |
READER 3 | I must stay at your house today. |
READER 1 | So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. |
READER 2 | All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.' " |
READER 3 | But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, |
READER 1 | "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, |
READER 2 | and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." |
READER 1 | Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, |
